Vital Statistics ...
The golf course is an 18 Hole Par 70 plan with a very “Inland Links” feel, set in and around 2 fields belonging to the Golf Club. Members have been every impressed with the way the course has come on within the past 3 years, and are positive that Burstwick will soon be one of the leading Clubs in the area.
At 5964 yards, it is not a long course, but there are a few surprises along the way to challenge even the most able golfer. And naturally, the more the course matures, the harder it becomes, with green and fairway speed improving, trees growing outwards and upwards, and each one of the 73 bunkers and 6 lakes looming in front of and around the target.
Note: Dress code for the Clubhouse and Golf Course requires that denim, tracksuits, non-collared t-shirts, hoodies, etc are not allowed. Also polo shirts and jumpers with large logos are not welcome. Tailored trousers, polo shirts, turtle necks, sweatshirts, and tailored shorts are welcome. If you have any questions regarding dress code, please do not hesitate to contact the club.
There are over 5000 young trees which were planted between 2003 and 2006, and some are now over 10 feet tall, compared with 2 feet when they were first planted. But because the trees are all still very young, the Course itself plays as an Inland Links. Much of the time the wind can be very challenging, changing what would be a simple 9 iron on a calm day, into a 3 iron.
The course is set on a very open field so golfers can be very exposed to the elements, which adds to the challenge of the course. For the next few years until the young trees begin to mature, the course will always play as a Links, which many golfers love. This means club selection can be absolutely vital in shooting a good score, because a 155 yard Par 3, can suddenly be playing over 200 yards with the prevailing wind direction.

Course Design!
The architect Jonathan Gaunt (from Gaunt Golf Design) has been well experienced in designing courses around the UK and Europe, so we knew that with his creativity and our hard work, this won’t be something golfers of all abilities will forget!
His aim from the start was to create what he called “A thinking man’s Course”. Rather than just go for out and out length, Jonathan went for hazard approach. He designed the course around 73 bunkers and 6 lakes, with each in mind to demand the best from every golfer.
Each green has been carefully positioned with hazards in cunning places, which can make anybody’s round very interesting.
Are We USGA Spec?
You bet we are! Burstwick Country Golf has full specification USGA Greens with an 80:20 mixture of Fescue and Bent grass, and while this may not mean much to the average golfer, to any well-educated Greenkeeper or Golfer, this will certainly impress. A USGA green is specifically designed to hold water and nutrients in dry months, and drain water in the wet months of the year.
